The Curse of the One Man Show (and How to Break It)

One-Man-BandI always say that the best leaders never lead, and here’s why; if the best leaders are always in the spotlight, then how are you supposed to raise up other leaders?   If you are doing everything with excellence, then what can anyone else do?  A lot of leaders hold on tight to the reins of leadership, but holding on to leadership is not a Biblical way to lead (Eph. 4:12).  Here are a few practical ways to simultaneously raise up new leaders and ensure you don’t become a one-man-show: Read more »

I Have a Dream

StadiumNo one wants to follow a leader who is going nowhere.

Leaders need to have vision, passion, and conviction.  Unction from the Holy Spirit.   A resolve to move forward regardless the cost.  Those are the leaders worth following.  So the question on the table is: what’s your vision for your microchurch?  Do you dream about it coming to pass?  Would you take a bullet for that dream?  Would you follow yourself if you were a member of your microchurch and not the leader? Too Busy To Make Disciples?

Disciples“I’m too busy.”

This is the American badge of honor.  Don’t believe me? Ask ten people how they are doing and I bet the majority of them will say they are really busy.  Why?  In our American culture, we have equated a busy lifestyle with an important one.  If you aren’t doing something then you aren’t valuable.  Busyness has become a cultural virtue and a way of life.

But this is not the Kingdom way. Read more »

Small Deposits, Massive Returns

Leading a Vibrant Discussion

DiscussionHave you ever had a life-changing topic that has been burning inside of you and as a leader you are about to explode with excitement to share?!?  In your head you envision life transformation happening before your eyes as people dialogue and unpack amazing truth and have multiple “ah-ha!” moments and leave thanking you for this amazing evening… but when you throw out that initial question to the room of 8-25 people in your microchurch, the only thing you hear is crickets.  Or it ends up being derailed and turned into a dialogue between the two people in the room with the strongest opinions that took the topic way off track.

Let’s never have another night like that… ever. Read more »

Invitation to the Supernatural

FlameI’ve always been drawn to see God do something special, dramatic, or downright miraculous in people’s lives.  Do you feel this way?  We read the life of Jesus and it seemed pretty normal for him.  But, then again, it became normal for those men and women who followed him as well.  Certainly that’s what we begin to see in the Book of Acts. Microchurch Isn’t Just Once a Week…

ConnectedSome of the most impactful moments with my microchurch don’t happen at microchurch. Well, at least not on Tuesday night when we have our official microchurch meeting. Some of the best God/community/mission moments happen when a handful of us pray together on Thursday mornings each week, or when Tracy and I have a couple over for dinner Saturday night to talk through their marriage, or when I call someone to share a prophetic word I have for them and they break down crying because they really needed to hear what the Lord was wanting to tell them.

One of the most significant things I learned from Jonate Read more »

The Best Leaders Never Lead

Baton PassSounds crazy right?  But it’s true: the best leaders never lead.  They don’t lead opening prayers at microchurch, they don’t lead worship, they don’t do the Bible studies, or even follow up with all their members throughout the week.

Why is this something we champion? Read more »
