Cultivating an Atmosphere of Worship

WorshipWorship.  It is not just the songs we sing on Sunday.  It is not just something religious that is done during large group gatherings.  Everyone is a worshiper, whether you are a follower of Jesus or not.  The real question is not if you worship, but what you worship.

With all that being said, there are still times when worship (songs and praise directed towards God) can help to cultivate and facilitate lifestyles and even microchurches that maintain a continual, worshipful gaze with their eyes fixed firmly on Jesus.  So how do we set a worshipful tone within the context of our microchurch?  What does that look like week to week?  How do we keep worship fresh?  Well, I’m glad you asked.  Here are a few pointers on how to keep worship vibrant and impactful in the context of your microchurch.    Read more »

Strength in Numbers: Microchurch Collaboration

Stone wallPart of the beauty of the microchurch movement is that each microchurch is a unique expression of  the body of Christ.  But what happens when there is a gift, wisdom, or even a type of outreach that  is needed that may not be expressed in the microchurch you are in?    If that is the case, then it may be time to reach outwards and partner with other microchurches (or a macro expression of church) to ensure that the fullness of the body of Christ is being properly utilized.  Here are some reasons why creating a culture of collaboration will benefit not only your microchurch but the ones you reach out to as well: Read more »

Help - Dealing with Problem MembersIf you are a microchurch leader, you have had this happen; you are having a great night and then all the sudden one person completely sidetracks the entire evening by putting the focus exclusively on them.  It doesn’t matter what you were talking about, praying about, or doing… they craved the spotlight and tried shut everything else down so the focus would be on them.  So what do you do when you have a member of your microchurch that is completely (and sometimes regularly) throwing your microchurch off track?

Leaving a Discipleship Legacy

imageLegacy.

What a powerful word.  It is what is left of you when you are gone.  It represents your life effort and the effectiveness of how well you pulled it off.   I believe one of the most important questions that is going to be asked on judgment day as we stand before Jesus is, “How many disciples did you make?”  So let me ask you a personal question; how many disciples have you made up to this point in your life?  I am not talking about how many spiritual conversations you had or how many times you sort of helped someone out.  That wasn’t the question. The Curse of the One Man Show (and How to Break It)

One-Man-BandI always say that the best leaders never lead, and here’s why; if the best leaders are always in the spotlight, then how are you supposed to raise up other leaders?   If you are doing everything with excellence, then what can anyone else do?  A lot of leaders hold on tight to the reins of leadership, but holding on to leadership is not a Biblical way to lead (Eph. 4:12).  Here are a few practical ways to simultaneously raise up new leaders and ensure you don’t become a one-man-show: Read more »

How to Fail Well as a Leader

Failure as a LeaderHey microchurch leader, here’s a newsflash; you’re going to fail… probably pretty bad at some point.  And the worst part is it is going to be an idea you really thought was going to be amazing.  So what do you do in those situations?  Embracing the inevitable failure is a good first step, but how you perceive failure and what you do with it is far more important.  Here are three quick things that if you know, you can kick failure in the face and come out on top (even though you already blew it):
